
Declared a Biosphere Reserve
Declared a Natural Park in 1979, it became part of the Biosphere Reserve, and since 2007 it is a National Park. 55 km. along the Torrejón el Rubio road (Ex-354).
It includes the towns of Villarreal de San Carlos, Casas de Miravete, Jaraicejo, Malpartida de Plasencia, Serradilla, Serrejón, Toril and Torrejón el Rubio. In Villarreal de San Carlos is the Visitor Reception Center, where you can find the necessary information to visit the Park. We can also visit the Monfragüe Interpretation Center, the Water Center and a Documentation Center.
In its 17,852 ha. Numerous shelters have been found with schematic cave paintings, vestiges of the Roman period and the remains of the castle from the Arab period that is located in the upper part of the Park.
Two rivers, the Tiétar and the Tagus, cross the park; In order to cross the latter, the Cardinal Bridge was built in the 15th century.
To visit the Park you can follow several well-marked routes; In them we find selected the most suitable places from which to contemplate the rich flora and fauna of the place.
