The Palace is a balanced building with a tower that stands out much higher than the rest of the palaces in the Historic Centre, because, when Queen Isabella “the Catholic” ordered the truncation of the Cáceres towers, she made an exception for this one, which was then being built by the order of Captain Diego de Ovando, a vassal and member of her Royal Council, who was allowed to build the palace and tower as he pleased.
It is built on the ruins of the old Muslim fortress and was finished around the early sixteenth century. On its façade, the Ovando and Mogollón family coats of arms are framed by an alfiz.
Recommendations: It belongs to the Ministry of Defence. Inside, there is a collection of weapons donated by the Army Museum. You can visit the tower upon request. Exhibitions are usually organized with some frequency.
