It is a beautiful palace outside the wall, located in a square that deserves a pleasant walk. It occupies the place where the synagogue of the New Jewish Quarter was located, transformed into the De la Cruz Hermitage.
The current building was built in the sixteenth century in the Renaissance style with some Mannerist details, such as the ashlar stonework of its façade, and others reminiscent of the Medieval, such as the Gothic details or the interior courtyard with one of its sides supported on a wall where you can read in Latin, “Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas” (Vanity of vanities, all is vanity). Its owners were the Blázquez-Mogollón family, Marquises de la Isla.
Separate from the City Council is the headquarters of the Department of Culture and the Archive and the Municipal Library a very active cultural centre. It usually hosts temporary exhibitions.
Recommendations In the old chapel of the Palace, which is located in the area that occupied the synagogue of the New Jewish Quarter, municipal civil weddings are celebrated.
