Located outside the walls of the Historic Centre in the popular Plaza del Duque, we find the palace of the Dukes of Abrantes, built in the sixteenth century. It is a very austere building that displays some Gothic elements on the outside, a highly present architectural style in the whole building, emphasizing the defensive tower holding a great guardhouse.
It was ordered to be built by Francisco de Carvajal, the Archdeacon of Plasencia, who also financed the reformation of the Church of Santiago de los Caballeros.
Inside, there are two Renaissance façades made by the stonemason, Pedro Gómez, following models by Sebastían Serlio.
Recommendations: In the Palace’s chapel, there is a reliquary with a Lignum Crucis fragment a small piece of the Cross on which Jesus Christ died.
