It is located outside the walls of the Historic Centre in the Plaza de la Soledad.
It is a simple hermitage, with a sober exterior and rectangular floorplan, built on the site of an old thirteenth- and fourteenth-century hospital. There is a sculpture of the Virgin of Solitude that stands out on the portal.
Inside, we can see a Baroque reredos by the Salamanca master, Luis González, presided over by a seventeenth-century image of the Virgin, from which the hermitage gets its name.
In 1470, it was the seat of a brotherhood that has lasted to this day, making it one of the oldest in the city--the Illustrious and Royal Brotherhood of Solitude and the Holy Funeral.
Recommendations: The Plaza de la Soledad and the adjacent Plaza de las Claras are two small examples of traditional architecture in Cáceres.
