Cáceres Natural Heritage
Our natural heritage is also monumental. Our surprising natural surroundings are essential constituents of Cáceres heritage, and it is no coincidence that we are one of the cities with the largest landscaped area in Spain; the Parque del Príncipe, the most important peri-urban area in Extremadura, the Parque del Rodeo or the Jardín de Cristina de Ulloa, built in 1963 next to the busy Plaza de San Jorge, are excellent examples of this.
In our municipality, the largest in Spain, there are Special Bird Protection Areas such as that of the Lesser Kestrel, with the largest urban reproductive nucleus of this species in the world. Other species of birds also nest in the surroundings of Cáceres, so scientists and amateurs have recognized us as an ideal city for ornithological observation.
