The Sanctuary is located in the Sierra de la Mosca, about 600m in altitude and with magnificent views over the city.
It was built in the eighteenth century and dedicated to the Virgen de la Montaña, or Virgin of the Mountain, the patron saint of the city since 1906.
The interior, decorated in the Baroque style, is made up of a single nave with side chapels, with images of Saint Anne and The Christ of Good Health, made by Juan Salvador Carmona. The main reredos is in the Churrigueresque style and houses the image of the Virgen de la Montaña, dated in the seventeenth century.
Recommendations: The Descent of the Virgen de la Montaña, which is celebrated ten days before the first Sunday of May, has been declared a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. The Virgin is transferred from her sanctuary to the Co-Cathedral of Santa María. It is received in Fuente Concejo by the Mayor of the city, who hands it the Cáceres Command Staff. The arrival of the Virgin to the Main Plaza is, without a doubt, a great celebration for the people of Cáceres.
