Located in Plaza de San Juan, this church is in one of the most populous parishes in the city. It was formerly called San Juan de los Ovejeros (Saint John of the Shepherds), because the area was settled by the transhumance shepherds who visited the city when livestock fairs were held.
The church dates back to the thirteenth century, but has undergone profound reforms in the fourteenth, fifteenth, and seventeenth centuries. In the 1960s, the church was remodelled to restore it to its original style, eliminating the altarpiece and subsequent decorations.
There are several very interesting chapels; among them, the chapel of the relics stands out, which has a Plateresque portal with decorations of cherubs and columns with balustrades on the sides. The parclose screen is from the sixteenth century.
Recommendations: It is located in a charming space with restaurants and tapas bars where you can taste the excellent products of Extremadura cuisine.
