Dedicated to the patron saint of Cáceres, San Jorge, it is located in the heart of the Monumental City.
St. George's Square was created as a result of the restoration carried out in the years 1965 - 1966 when a public fountain was removed from the place where the monument of the poet Rubén Darío is now located. The beautiful staircase leading to the Church of San Francisco Javier and the school of the Society of Jesus stands out. The Cristina de Ulloa Garden, located next to the staircase, deserves special attention and you will always remember it.
At present, the cafeteria El Jardín de Ulloa, belonging to the Mercedes Calles-Carlos Ballestero Foundation, is located next to the garden of the same name. A beautiful place to stop and contemplate the views from this garden. On the stairs, inside a niche, is the image of St. George, patron saint of the city, which was reconquered on 23 April 1229. The image is the work of the sculptor Jesús Rodríguez Aranda. At the top of the staircase is the spectacular Baroque style Church of San Francisco Javier and the Jesuit School.
