Despite its name, this bird’s main range is in Africa.
In Europe it breeds only in Spain and some border areas of Portugal. It is darker than the House Sparrow and prefers more rural habitat. Around Cáceres it can be seen only in rural areas that are still being farmed and run on traditional lines.
