Birdwatching
Slightly larger than a pigeon, this exotic looking bird lays its eggs in other birds’ nest just like its better-known cousin, preying especially on magpies and other medium-sized crow species. It slips in stealthily to destroy its hosts’ eggs and lay its own, which the magpies then hatch and rear in blissful ignorance of the subterfuge. It is abundant around Cáceres, mainly in the plains to the north and north east of the city.
