It has a set of parietal art that was ascribed to the Upper Palaeolithic.
The Interpretation Centre is located in the park of the same name, next to the cave, inside the city of Cáceres. The cave was found in 1951 when the workers of a limestone quarry discovered human remains together with ceramics. The works in the quarry continued until 1956 when parietal art was found which put an end to the exploitation of the quarry. For conservation reasons the cave is not open to the public. However, the Interpretation Centre where you can visit an exhibition about the cave.
The cave was a refuge for hunter-gatherers 350,000 years ago. It was also a burial place in the Neolithic and Bronze Age.
