Festivals and traditions
It has been recently declared (2018) a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest.
Ten days before the first Sunday in May, the patron Saint of Cáceres, Our Lady of the Mountain, is transferred from Her sanctuary to the Co-cathedral of Santa María. Then, on the first Sunday in May, the image of Our Lady is returned to Her shrine in a pilgrimage accompanied by the people of Cáceres. It is a tradition to visit the image on the days during which it remains in the city, when numerous events are held in honour of Our Lady, most notably the "besamantos" (cape kissing).
